im not sure how anyone thinks its possible to make any valuable/considered opinion on how good someone is on one game versus a bunch of andorran waiters.

Exactly. Taught my boys from an early age. It was interesting to see Brooking doing it as well for his son in that documentary. The boy scored a great left footer past him as well.

How top players get away with it these days is a mystery.

Composed a d broke play up well. Didn't stop moving all game. I only think he'll be in the europa games as our midfield is too strong atm. As poster said, better than Noble.

Some varied views

how about taking in to consideration his partner in midfield ?

A 16 year old kid

Poyet was playing it safe and simple AND was also helping Oxford out as much as he could, talking, instructing etc

___

He also had Zarate in front of him - needed to keep an eye on his ability to lose the ball cheaply.

Funnily enough one of things I liked best about Poyet when I saw him in Germany last year WAS his ability to pick a pass out- he did a couple of quality stop, look, turn and switched the play to the other flank- at speed- I dont doubt he can do it, just wasnt the game last night... lets see more of him..

Re: Diego Poyet
What I find amusing about this is the people who don't like Noble praise Poyet. The characteristics are the same.
Sits deep
Slow
Likes a challenge
Loves a safe pass
Not so good going forwards

You'd think they'd be sick of that style?

For me it's just a petty point scoring thing from a few posters who think he's better off the back of a game against Andorran's.

The amount of money players are paid today they should all be two footed. This is something we work on with the kids to improve their balance, technique and decision making.

How can you say Poyyet is better than Noble after watching him play a team from Andorra!?

Re: Diego Poyet
I think Young Woody is right.

Very sideways and will get caught holding the ball against better opponents.

He clearly has a 'footballing brain' and will learn a lot from Song but I doubt he will ever feature much judging from who we have in our Midfield these days.

I stand by what I said, will be a top player

Re: Diego Poyet
Got to be honest, I was expecting much more against that sort of opposition he should have been on the ball for most of the game but seemed to struggle to find a pass.

perhaps it was the lack of movement ahead of him, but thought he looked ordinary

Was all a bit side ways for me.
Noble is still miles better

I thought he did well last night.
Definitely a player in there, hopefully he gets a bit more game time this season.

even though i wasnt there, he looked quite ordinary on the stream. at the moment i dont really get the hype...

Re: Diego Poyet
I find him painfully slow. Gets the ball, takes a couple of touches and then distributes.

Also, looks like George BOYD from a distance.

Re: Diego Poyet
Cullen was more impressive then Diego last night

With his experience and against that level of opposition i would expect him to have a much bigger influence on the game. He reminded me of Joe Allen, just getting the ball and passing it sideways and backwards.

Might be due to lack of game time and match fitness, but he needs to improve vastly on last nights performance if he is to get near the first team regularly.

Cullen looked very good imo, was crying out for one of the holding 2 to get forward more and he did just that

theaxeman 9:50 Fri Jul 3
Re: Diego Poyet
just wondering how many first team games had Noble played by the time he was 20? Why are you using Poyet to knock Noble who wasn't playing? ridiculous. ..

busheyhammer85 9:47 Fri Jul 3
Re: Diego Poyet
Anyone suggesting that Poyet is operating anywhere near the level of Mark Noble now if so deluded i'm not sure I even want to waste my time debating with them.

Fwiw though i think Poyet is a talent.

David L 9:40 Fri Jul 3
Re: Diego Poyet
Following on from Westley's comments, it's hard to provide killer passes and take one touch instead of three when you're totally one footed. Same with Noble. The range of your ability to move, turn, and deliver a pass is very restricted. I would have thought being two footed was an essential for the role he and Noble have to play, but obviously not.

theaxeman 9:36 Fri Jul 3
Re: Diego Poyet
he is nowhere near noble at present, promising player though.
